Placencia Karate Club

The club in Placencia is one of five clubs of Belize Shotokan Karate, affiliated with ISKF, International Shotokan Karate Federation .  So we follow their curriculum and rules.  BSKA is a registered NGO organization.

Karate is a martial art that combines the physical with the personal development. You cannot do one without the other and be real karate. The belts indicate the level of proficiency a person has achieved in karate techniques. Each belt has a specific kata or dance to be learned. How quickly a person moves through the various belts is based upon their learning the techniques to a certain level. Please note I didn’t say mastering the technique. An examiner is looking for the effort in a technique and not necessarily perfecting it. When parents ask about  their child joining, one of the first questions I ask is how old. Because kids under seven can struggle to learn a move only because they are still learning how to move their bodies and their attention span can be less that a youth of eight and up. Adults can learn easily and some join just to remain agile and flexible.
